So, from the very title you can guess that an illustration essay is about giving the examples. These examples are designed to illustrate the main idea of your paper. You may ask “Why do I need to illustrate my ideas?”
Well, the thing is that some ideas in your illustration essay can be a bit vague and not concrete. This can lead to the poor results of your illustration essay, since the reader will not be able to get these ideas. Illustrations (examples) make all the ideas down to earth, clearer and easy to get. What is more, good examples usually make any piece of writing more attention-grabbing.
However, giving the examples is not so easy. Your example should be really powerful and bright to back up what you intend to say. By the way, let us talk about the right places for examples in your paper.
• Your piece of writing can be one big example
• Your essay can be split into 5-6 paragraphs each provided with an example.
• Examples can be introduced in some sentences.
Now, let us pass to the correct ways of giving the examples. Do you remember that we were talking about powerful and bright examples? What does it mean? For instance, you want to describe some abstract concepts like kindness, pain, generosity, jealousy and so on. Dry and simple examples will not be able to illustrate them appropriately.
Say, you want to talk about pain. If you give an example of a finger that was struck by a hammer, it will be a poor example. But if you five an example of a mother who for some reasons needs to leave a child, it will be much more powerful illustration.
So, learn to give examples if you want to produce an impressive piece of writing.
